High Mountain Lakes:

Fishing high mountain lakes is recommended this time of year. This past weekend lakes in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area were fishing well for rainbow and brook trout on both flies and spinners. However, it was very busy with campers and anglers. Fish stocking this month will include Alturas Lake and Stanley Lake.

Warning: The Halstead fire is burning 18 miles NW of Stanley. As of 1:30pm today it was not contained and has burned over 5,000 acres. Some area closures are in effect. Check the National Interagency Fire Center website at

Rivers: The Upper South Fork, Middle Fork and North Fork of the Boise have been fishing well. Try caddis and hoppers. Mid-town Boise River fishing during the day is not recommended with floating season in full swing.
