4,000 Kids Get Chance to Catch Fish at Arizona's Outdoor Expo

More than 4,000 children took part in the popular kids fishing tank experience at the 2012 Arizona Game and Fish Department Outdoor Expo March 30 thru April 1.

After three days of fishing, more than 60 percent of the youngsters caught and released a redear sunfish. For many of the youngsters, it was the first fish they have ever caught..

Shouts of glee kept erupting as the feisty sunfish were lifted from the tank and then released in a pattern that repeated itself thousands of times. Cameras, smart phones and cell phones were used to capture images of this fun and memorable family experience.

During the weekend, 60 department employees and volunteers worked in unison to assist the youngsters in catching fish and ensuring they had a great time. But the 4,000 sunfish were the stars of the Expo. At the end of the busy weekend, the redear sunfish were loaded up and delivered to Encanto, Cortez, Rio Vista and Surprise lakes.
