Evans County, Georgia PFA Raises Fish Limits in Preparation for Temporary Closure

All the fish you can take!  Well, not quite, but for anglers at Evans County Public Fishing Area, the limit on what they can take will increase significantly as preparations are made for an upcoming improvements project on the area.  Due to construction needs, this PFA will temporarily close on June 1, 2012 and re-open in 2013.

The impoundment was constructed nearly 50 years ago and currently has multiple issues and needs.  Trees, that began growing on the dam prior to WRD’s acquisition, have reduced the integrity of the structure.  Additionally, the dam’s front face has suffered from wave erosion. Bond funding will support tree and stump removal, slope rebuilding and grading for structural integrity and improved maintenance, and rip-rap installation to prevent further wave damage. Fisheries Management plans to rebuild the fish population with restocking and add lake enhancements, such as fish attractors.
