Montana's Region 3 Wardens Arrest Suspected Poacher

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 3 game wardens arrested Christopher Dolan of East Helena Sunday after a search of his home uncovered a 6 x 7 set of elk antlers and other evidence connecting Dolan to the Super Bowl weekend unlawful shooting of a trophy bull elk. He is charged with unlawful possession of a game animal (a felony) and hunting during a closed season.

According to Sgt. Dave Loewen, a headless carcass was discovered near McClellan Creek and Sawmill Road after being shot around February 5. Wardens received numerous tips from concerned citizens, and anonymous leads from TIP-MONT.

“In addition to illegally taking the life of a trophy animal, this individual stole from the people of Montana. That can’t be tolerated,” Loewen said. “We could not have solved this case without the help of concerned citizens that took notice and took action.”
