Big turnout for Family Fun Day

Eighty-eight children, as well as their friends and family,
attended the first-ever Family Fun Day at Madison Lake State Park
near London on Saturday, Aug. 6.

The event, held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park beach, was
sponsored by the Madison County Sheriff’s D.A.R.E. Program and the
Ohio DNR’s wildlife and state parks divisions.

County wildlife officer Matt Teders said the turnout was more than
double the number of children expected.

Activities included archery and fishing with Teders and Ohio DNR
park officers providing instruction and pointers to the youthful
participants. The agency also provided all the necessary archery
and fishing gear.

Coughlin Automotive Group of London supplied lunch and snacks.
Pappy’s Anglers Parlor, located on Payne-Thompson Road near the
lake, provided the bait.

Teders hopes to expand the event next year and include kayaking. He
intends to approach the DNR’s watercraft division for help with
that effort.
