SD: Road to Chief White Crane Recreation Area expected to remain open

YANKTON, S.D. – Based on the latest water release projections
for Gavin’s Point Dam, the training dike road which allows access
to Chief White Crane Recreation Area near Yankton will remain
open.

After heavy local rain, the Corps of Engineers stated Sunday
that the road could be closed due to water releases above 160,000
cubic feet per second (cfs). According to local officials,
adjustments were made in upstream reservoirs, and water release is
no longer expected to be above 160,000 cfs.

“We are very pleased that the Corps will not have to increase
the water releases at Gavin’s Point Dam,” said Regional Park
Supervisor Jeff VanMeeteren. “Chief White Crane is full of campers
for the Fourth of July weekend, and now no one has to change their
plans.”
