Three Minnesota DNR conservation officers promoted

The Minnesota DNR has announced the promotion of three
conservation officers.

Mike Shelden was named Fergus Falls area enforcement supervisor,
which includes Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Todd and
Traverse counties. Julie Olson is the new St. Cloud area
enforcement supervisor. The area includes Benton, Chisago, Isanti,
Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Sherburne and Wright counties. Aaron Kahre
will be the Two Harbors area enforcement supervisor for Cook, Lake
and St. Louis counties.

“Each of these officers possesses courage, leadership, and
ability,” said Col. Jim Konrad,

DNR Enforcement director. “I am confident that they will
continue the proud tradition of the department. My sincere
congratulations go out to them for these well-deserved


Aaron Kahre was a CO in South Dakota for seven years before
joining Minnesota DNR nearly four years ago. He is currently
stationed in Minnetonka. He is the 2009 DNR Boat and Water Safety
Officer of the Year.

Julie Olson became a CO in 1994 and was stationed in Princeton
until 2004 when she became a wetland enforcement officer (WEO). She
was a training officer during seven of the 10 years she spent in
the field. As a WEO she covered up to 11 counties in central
Minnesota. Olson was honored with the Willard Munger Wetlands Award
in 2004.

Mike Shelden has been a CO for 24 years. He was stationed in
Appleton from 1986-1988, Morris from 1988-1997, and Alexandria from
1997 to present. Shelden was named DNR Boat and Water Safety
Officer of the Year in 2003 and DNR Conservation Officer of the
Year in 2006. His father Duane was a CO from 1962-1997, and in the
Alexandria station from 1968 until retirement in 1997. He was also
the Conservation Officer of the Year in 1996. There has been a
Shelden stationed in Alexandria for 42 years.
