Turkey hunters shooting for record spring through two weeks
Two weeks into the season, Illinois turkey hunters find
themselves on course to set a record for spring harvest. In the
opening week, north zone hunters took 2,752 birds – the highest
first week total since the 2,864 they took in 2002.
According to DNR, the top five counties were JoDaviess (197),
Pike (158), Fulton (139), Adams (127), Schuyler (105).
South zone hunters shot 1,497 birds in the second week and have
harvested a total of 3,134 – ahead of the pace during the record
year in 2006 (2,823).
The top five south counties to date are Pope (188), Jefferson
(177), Randolph (169), Union (166), Jackson (162).
