Chariton, Iowa (AP) – Iowa will become the focus of the deer
hunting world when archers take to the woods to hunt the
animals.
An estimated 55,000 hunters will participate in the archery
season, which runs from Thursday through Dec. 4. It closes for the
two shotgun season, then opens against from Dec. 21 through Jan.
10.
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, the early
weeks of the season archers will have the most success hunting near
food sources, such as alfalfa, other varieties of clover, and
acorns.
Last year, 42 percent of the 21,819 deer bow hunters reported
harvesting were does. Natural resources officials say since a
mature doe provides as much meat as a young buck, hunters should
consider passing up bucks.
