S.D. panel OKs shooting more pheasants at preserves

Sioux Falls, S.D. (AP) – The Game, Fish and Parks Commission has
voted to increase the daily bag limit from 15 roosters to 20 for
part of the year at commercial pheasant preserves.

The privately run preserves release pen-raised pheasants and
allow hunting from Sept. 1 through March 31 – much longer than the
regular state pheasant season that runs this year from Oct. 17 to
Jan. 3.

The higher bag limit at preserves would be allowed from Sept. 1
to the end of the state’s regular pheasant season. Then it would go
back to 15 roosters daily.

The change must be approved by the Legislature’s Rules Review
Committee, which meets on Sept. 1.
