Paper company works to improve WVa trout streams

Charleston, W.Va. (AP) – MeadWestvaco
says it is joining with the West Virginia Division of Natural
Resources to improve trout fishing on 146,000 acres of
company-owned forest.

The Glen Allen, Va.-based company said it plans to analyze about
538 miles of streams in Fayette, Greenbrier and Nicholas counties
over the next several years. The company plans to focus on Laurel
Creek and its tributaries.

Company forester and wildlife biologist Aaron Plaugher says the
goal of the MWV Trout Adventure program is to improve trout habitat
and populations in the Laurel Creek watershed.

Native brook trout have been discovered in the streams sampled
to date.
