Tony Dean Festival raises about $6,500

Pierre, S.D. (AP) – A festival to honor of the life of the late
South Dakota conservation leader and outdoorsman Tony Dean raised
about $6,500.

Proceeds from the weekend event will help fund the purchase of
public land in honor of Dean, who died last October at age 67 from
complications during an appendectomy.

Dean co-produced award-winning radio and TV programs about the
outdoors and often featured local fishing and hunting areas.

The festival was held Saturday at Spring Creek Marina north of
Pierre. It had various activities, from fishing to golfing.
Organizer Paul Lepisto says he expects another festival will be
held next year.
