N.D. early Canada goose season opens Saturday

Bismarck, N.D. (AP) – An early hunting season intended to reduce
local Canada goose numbers in North Dakota opens statewide on
Saturday.

It’s the second straight year the early season opened before
Sept. 1. The state Game and Fish Department says the earlier opener
is permitted under the framework provided by the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service.

State wildlife officials say Canada goose numbers remain high in
North Dakota and well above population goals. That has led to an
increase in landowners reporting depredation on crops and nuisance
problems.
