South Carolina offers seminar for alligator hunters

Garnett, S.C. (AP) – The South Carolina Department of Natural
Resources is holding its first alligator hunting seminar of the
season.

The seminar is Saturday at the Webb Wildlife Center near Garnett
in Hampton County. Others will be scheduled before the season which
runs from Sept. 12 through Oct. 10.

As many as 1,000 hunting permits will be issued. Last year 190
gators were taken during a season in which 800 permits were
issued.

That was the first time hunters could kill alligators in public
waterways in South Carolina in 44 years.

Hunters with permits may take only one gator. Gators must be
restrained first before they are killed with a handgun or a bang
stick – a wooden stick with an exploding cartridge
