Pierre, S.D. (AP) – South Dakota wildlife officials say a public
goose-hunting area near Pierre had one of its most successful
seasons last winter.
The Lower Oahe Waterfowl Hunting Access Area has been open for
to public hunting for 11 years. The area has opportunities for pass
shooting, but it is particularly attractive to hunters who use
The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Department reports that
more than 1,800 hunters used the area set aside for hunting with
decoys during the past hunting season. Officials estimate those
hunters killed nearly 3,000 geese, a record for the area.
