Traverse City Area
Salmon and a few steelhead are biting at the mouth of the
Boardman River. Those fishing with spawn and spoons are enjoying
good success. Whitefish action has been good in East Grand Traverse
Bay off Bunker Hill Road in 80 feet of water. Walleye fishing has
been good on Long Lake and South Lake Leelanau. Bear hunting has
been slow. Grouse hunters are flushing lots of birds.

Salmon fishing is peaking in the Big Manistee River. Flies like
black stones and egg-sucking leeches, as well as spawn and spoons

Fishing pressure has been light on lakes Mitchell and Cadillac.
A few crappies have been caught at the east end of Lake Cadillac.

Fishing pressure has been light around Le Roy. A few crappies
have been biting, and and walleye action has been decent on Rose
Lake. Archery deer season is off to a good start.

Houghton Lake Area
Fishing has been good on Houghton Lake. Pike action has been
good for those fishing in 4 to 6 feet of water along the weeds with
live chubs and cranks. Walleyes are hitting crawler harnesses and
Hot ‘n’ Tots in 6 to 10 feet of water. A few ‘gills and an
occasional jumbo perch have been caught in the weeds.

Higgins Lake Area
Perch fishing has been good on Higgins Lake. Anglers fishing
minnows over the sunken island are catching fish in 20 feet of
water. Grouse and woodcock hunting has been prexy good. Leaves are
changing colors and will be falling soon. Bear hunting has been

Pike and smallmouth bass are hitting at the Five Channel Dam on
the Au Sable River. Pike are hitting large shiners suspended under
bobbers, and bass are hitting shiners and crawlers fished along the
bottom. Perch and bluegill fishing has been very good on the Au
Sable at Cook Dam. Wax worms and jigs have been productive. Grouse
and woodcock hunters report lots of birds.

Fishing has been slow in Lake Huron’s Tawas Bay. A few walleyes
were being caught out near the No. 3 buoy. Grouse and woodcock
