Illinois River: Near Ottawa, catfish are good. Best on shrimp,
chicken liver and shad. Near Peoria, channel catfish good along
channel edges. White bass are good on Little Georges. Near Starved
Rock, white bass are good on blade baits. Catfish good on cut shad
and dipbaits. Smallmouth bass and catfish still good in the big
Vermilion River, which is low and clean and was not impacted by
recent rains. Flathead catfish are hitting well on bluegills and
channel cats are biting on dipbait. White bass are also good from
Peru to Henry on bladebaits or silver spinners on sand flats or pea
gravel bars. Near Spring Valley, catfish biting on herring and
shad. White bass good. Near Chillicothe, white bass are decent on
Panther Martins. Near Henry, catfish good on night crawlers. White
bass good on night crawlers near the marina.

Kankakee River: At the Kankakee Dam, catfish are good on
minnows, night crawlers and dipbaits. Near Momence, catfish are
good on minnows, cheesebaits and chicken livers, and smallmouth
bass are fair on Mepps spinners and live minnows. Near Aroma Park,
crappies are biting well at the mouth of the Iroquois River on
minnows, pinkie jigs and Beetle Spins. Rock bass are biting on
minnows and crawlers. Near Kankakee River State Park, catfish are
good on minnows, crawlers and crayfish. Near Wilmington smallmouth
bass are good on jig and minnow, Twin Spin spinnerbaits and Mepps
No. 3 spinners with silver blades.

Mississippi River: At Pools 13-14, water levels are stable to
slowly falling and temperature at Guttenberg is 78 degrees, which
is much cooler than expected for this time of year. Walleye fishing
is good to excellent along the wing dams from Pool 9 through 15.
Use a three-way rig tipped with either a leech or night crawler
fished along the front edge of the wing dams, or try casting or
trolling crankbaits along the wing dams and lower ends of the
sloughs. Fishing is very good to excellent for channel catfish
along rocky shorelines and riprap areas.

At Pool 16, channel catfish are biting on stinkbait, shad and
chicken liver. Walleyes are being caught trolling or casting
crankbaits on the wing dams. Largemouth bass are being caught on
soft plastics in the backwaters. Freshwater drum (sheephead) are
being caught fishing night crawlers on the bottom along the main
