Baldwin Area

Fly hatches have been light and scattered on the Pere Marquette
River. Anglers fishing at Custer are catching a fair number of
browns. Crawlers and spinners have produced fish. Panfish are
keeping anglers busy on Big Star, Idlewyld, Wolf, and Putnam lakes.
Nightcrawlers, leaf worms, and wax worms are all catching fish.
Several nice pike have been caught on spoons and spinners fished on
Idlewyld and Big Star lakes.

Ludington Area

Salmon fishing remains very good on Lake Michigan at Ludington.
The best action has come to anglers pulling spoons in 100 to 200
feet of water, 75 to 120 feet down. Many anglers are returning to
shore with a mixed bag, as a few lakers, steelhead, and brown trout
are all part of the catch.

Traverse City Area

Fishing has slowed a little around Traverse City. Smallmouth
bass are hitting in East and West Grand Traverse Bays. The best
action has been along the weeds in 8 to 10 feet of water. Salmon
are starting to trickle into Grand Traverse Bay. Walleye fishing
has been hot in Lake Bellaire with nightcrawlers and crankbaits
both taking fish. The best bites have come to those fishing 10 feet
down in 70 feet of water.

Frankfort Area

Salmon fishing has been good on Lake Michigan. Anglers fishing
near the Point Betsie Light House in 130 to 150 feet of water
report good success. Bass and panfish are hitting on Upper and
Lower Herring lakes, and the walleye bite on Lower Herring has been

Wellston Area

Skamania steelhead are hitting in fair numbers below Tippy Dam
on the Manistee River. A few salmon are being caught downstream
near Bear Creek and Pine Creek. Brown trout are hitting files and
worms fished in the lower stretch of the Manistee and in the Little
Manistee River. The Hex hatch is about over.

Cadillac Area

Fishing has been great on lakes Mitchell and Cadillac. Crappies
are hitting on Cadillac at the east end of the lake. The best bites
have been during low-light periods. Pike and bass are hitting on
both lakes around the weedbeds in 10 to 14 feet of water. Walleye
fishing has been spotty.

Houghton Lake Area

Anglers drifting with nightcrawler harnesses and trolling Hot ‘N
Tots are catching decent numbers of walleyes on Houghton Lake. Pike
fishing is good all around the lake. Bluegill fishing remains
strong, but crappie fishing has been slow. Perch fishing has been
pretty good at the Middle Ground and along the south shore

Higgins Lake Area

Rock bass and smallmouth bass are keeping anglers busy on
Higgins Lake. Trout anglers report a decent lake trout bite. Bass
are hitting soft plastics fished in 10 to 20 feet of water, while
the lakers are hitting jigs, and cow bells and crankbaits fished in
80 to 100 feet of water.
