Madison Area

Fishing has been pretty good, although there was a no-wake rule
still in place on all Dane County lakes as of last week. Some of
the piers were emerging last week, so anglers could fish from shore
without getting their feet wet. White bass were hitting on Lake
Mendota, and walleye action wasn’t too bad along the weed edges.
Trollers were catching northern pike on crankbaits. Smallmouths
were hitting on the bars. Panfish were hitting, but there with no
set patterns. Move around and look for schools. Catfish have been
fairly active on Mendota. Monona bluegills were hitting in 12 to 18
feet off the weedlines last week, but there were also some
bluegills still up in the shallows and there still appeared to be
some spawning activity going on. Lake Waubesa panfish action has
been pretty good, with crappies hitting pretty well off the weed
edges. Bluegills have been tighter to the weeds.
