Allegan Area

Ice is running up to 6 inches thick on most area lakes. Perch
and walleye are hitting on Maple Lake, and bluegills have provided
a hot bite on Miner, Duck, and Eagle lakes. Pike fishing has been
very good on Long Lake. Coyote hunting has been slow.

Sturgis Area

Ice is running up to 6 inches on most lakes around Sturgis.
Walleye fishing has been good on Clinger Lake. The best bite has
been in 15 to 18 feet of water over the breaks. Pike and panfish
action has been slow on other lakes in the area. Coyote hunting has
been good.

Holland Area

Safe ice was spotty around Holland last week, running between 2
and 4 inches thick, depending on the lake. Anglers are urged to use
extreme caution. Pike and bluegills are hitting on Gun Lake, and
bluegills are keeping anglers busy on Pigeon Lake. Fishing has been
fair on the Kalamazoo River with anglers picking up a few walleyes
and steelhead at the Allegan Dam. Rabbit hunting has been slow, and
coyote hunting has been fair. There is about a foot of snow on the
ground.

Lake St. Clair

Ice fishing has stalled on Lake St. Clair. Pressure cracks, thin
ice, and drifting snow have put a damper on fishing. Rabbit and
coyote hunting have been fair.

Irish Hills Area

Ice is holding up fairly well in the Irish Hills area with up to
6 inches on most lakes. Bluegills and crappies are hitting on
Wamplers, Sand, and Devils lakes. A few walleyes are being caught,
too. Coyote and rabbit hunting have been pretty good, but hunting
pressure has been light.

Lake Orion

Ice was running up to 5 inches thick on some of the smaller
lakes in the area and less on others. Perch fishing has been decent
on Clear Lake and in the back bays on Lake Orion. Coyote hunting
has been decent.

Saginaw Bay Area

There is about 8 inches of ice on Saginaw Bay, but ice piles,
caused by an east wind, are up to 30 feet high, making travel
difficult. For those finding a safe route around the ice piles,
walleyes are biting in 18 to 20 feet of water off Linwood and
Erickson roads.

Weidman Area

Ice is running up to 12 inches thick on area lakes. Walleye
fishing has been good on Lake Isabella and Coldwater Lake. Jigging
spoons tipped with minnows have been taking fish. Panfish action is
picking up, too. There is about 2 feet of snow on the ground.
Predator hunting has been good.

Baldwin Area

Steelhead fishing has been pretty good on the Pere Marquette
River. There is about 2 feet of snow on the ground. Rabbit hunting
has been difficult, but coyote hunting has been good.
