Lake St. Clair

High winds have put a damper on fishing on Lake St. Clair, and
all the state ramps have been pulled so access is limited. Ice
fishing is still at least a coupe weeks away, weather permitting. A
little shore ice is beginning to form. The firearms deer season was
a mixed bag.

Irish Hills Area

Deer season has been good in Jackson County. Some big bucks have
been taken so far this year, including several over 200 pounds. A
few anglers are catching bluegills on Devil’s Lake, which is still
open water. Fishing pressure has been light.

Pontiac Area

Firearms deer season was good. A few bucks are still chasing
does, but hunting pressure has fallen off. Fair numbers of
steelhead are hitting spawn, spinners, and flies in the Clinton
River. Local lakes are starting to ice over. It won’t be long
before ice anglers are sneaking out on the shallower lakes.

Trenton Area

Walleye fishing remains pretty good. A few anglers are catching
fish in Lake Erie in front of Sterling State Park by trolling
crankbaits in 17 to 18 feet of water. Bluegills and perch have
moved in shallow and are being caught in the marinas and canals.
Steelhead fishing has been good on the Huron River. Spawn and
waxies are both producing. Deer hunting has been fair, but hunting
pressure is down.
