Madison, Wis. Preliminary Wisconsin DNR reports show that the 2004 fall turkey hunt was successful for many hunters. According to Andrea Mezera, assistant DNR upland wildlife ecologist, the DNR issued 78,900 permits for the 30-day hunt that ran from Oct.

Last fall, hunters registered 12,466 birds; this year’s numbers are expected to be up slightly.
