Madison, Wis. Preliminary figures show hunters in Wisconsin registered 47,373 turkeys during the state’s 2004 spring wild turkey season. That’s a 10-percent increase over the 2003 harvest of 42,970 birds. The statewide hunter success rate remained stable

A total of 185,000 permits were available for the Wisconsin spring turkey season in 43 turkey management zones and 12 state parks. More than 26,000 hunters received second permits. Minnesota set a new turkey harvest record this spring by killing about 8,300 birds. The state’s estimated turkey population is about 50,000 birds.
