St. Paul Spring fire restrictions are ending in Minnesota. The DNR lifted burning restrictions on May 29 in Cook, Lake, and St. Louis counties in northeastern Minnesota.

Although restrictions have been lifted statewide, there still are several localized dry areas in northeastern Minnesota, and Forestry officials may limit the issuance of burning permits in these areas. More information about open burning can be found on the DNR web site at www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire or by calling your local DNR office.

Zimmerman, Minn. The public is invited to participate in free guided bird and wildflower programs at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge on the morning of Saturday, June 5.

The guided bird tour begins at 7 a.m. and will feature birds like the red-eyed vireo and warblers; the wildflower tour begins at 10 a.m. and participants should expect to see flowers such as wild lupine and columbine. East Grand Forks, Minn. A unique, full-service state park campground and scenic area, created from a flood-ravaged riverway, will celebrate with a grand opening celebration June 6, according to the DNR.

The 2,200-acre area was created following 1997 flooding. The Red River State Recreation Area extends about 6.6 miles along the east side of the Red River and 4.6 miles along the Red Lake River.
