St. Paul The Migratory Bird Conservation Commission recently awarded a $1 million grant from the North American Wetlands Conservation Act to Pheasants Forever in Minnesota.

The grant was approved for the Northern Tallgrass Prairie
Wetland Conservation Initiative, which includes nine partners who
have pledged to complete over $21 million in habitat restoration
and enhancement, easement acquisition, and fee-title acquisition
over the next three years. The grant funds Phase III of a 10-year
initiative, which began in 1995 and focuses on 17 counties in
northwestern Minnesota.

Nearly $2 million in NAWCA grants were awarded for phases I and
II of this initiative, which includes federal, state, and private
partners.
