Madison The DNR mailed out fall turkey hunting permits in
mid-September. The DNR received 91,082 applications and is mailing
out 78,751 permits.

“It looks like recruitment was pretty good this past year and we
expect to see hunters have a good fall hunt,” said Keith Warnke,
DNR upland wildlife ecologist.

There are new blaze orange requirements for turkey hunters in
2003. Those hunters in areas open for Zone T antlerless gun deer
hunting (Oct. 30 through Nov. 2) and the youth firearms deer hunt
open statewide (Saturday, Nov. 1) will have to wear at least 50
percent blaze orange. The requirements are included in the new
turkey regulations pamphlet. The turkey season opens Oct. 11 and
runs through Nov. 9.
