Pierre, S.D. A deer from the Black Hills area of South Dakota has tested positive for chronic wasting disease, the state’s Game, Fish and Parks Department reported Dec. 6.

The deer was a 21/2-year-old whitetail buck that a vehicle
struck and killed in Rapid City in September. The deer was
collected and immediately submitted for testing. So far, 1,600 deer
and elk have been submitted for testing this fall, said Ron Fowler,
game program administrator for the GF&P. The results of 150 of
those tests have been returned.
