Milaca, Minn. DNA analysis of hair samples showed a car-killed black bear recovered shortly after an attack on a University of Minnesota researcher was not the one responsible for the injuries to the researcher.

The attack occurred Sept. 15 at Four Brooks Wildlife Management Area, just north of Milaca. The tested bear was killed on U.S. Highway 169 about 10 miles form the attack site. Samples of bear hair found in the victim’s clothing were compared to samples taken from the car-killed bear. Tests conducted at Wildlife Genetics International,
