Bigger than expected. . .

One of the biggest Mille Lacs ice fishing stories of the 2000-2001 winter has been the nice size of perch in the angler catch. Reports from around the lake following several weeks of ice fishing were that plenty of perch were good-sized often between 10 and 12 inches, with larger big bellied females not uncommon.

Pierre, S.D. Six hunting applications have become available and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks officials say some big game application deadlines are close to expiring.

Special buck applications are due by May 11 and all elk applications must be postmarked on or before Friday, May 18. Also available now are applications for nonresident small game and paddlefish. Resident archery deer, East River archery antelope and all bighorn sheep and mountain goat applications are due no later than Friday, June 1.
