Posted on February 14, 2013

Lake St. Clair

Perch fishing has been good on Lake St. Clair, where ice is running between 6 and 8 inches thick. Anglers report a good bite in front of Gino’s Surf and off Lake St. Clair Metropark in 8 to 12 feet of water. Ice is running between 6 and 8 inches in most spots. A fairly good perch bite has been reported from anglers fishing off Selfridge and off Cotton Road.

Lake Orion

Panfish and a few pike have been caught on Stringy Lakes. Spikes have been the bait of choice for panfish, and pike are hitting suckers and chubs dangled under tip-ups. Hunting pressure has been light, but there are lots of coyotes in the area.

Allegan Area

Ice was still in poor shape in Allegan County last week and ice fishing has been put on hold. The docks have been removed from the Kalamazoo River, but boat anglers who are able to launch have caught fair numbers of steelhead and walleyes below the Allegan Dam. Coyotes are on the move, and hunting and trapping has been pretty good. There was about 12 inches of snow on the ground last week.

Kalamazoo Area

Ice conditions were poor last week in Kalamazoo County and ice fishing was on hold. In the St. Joe River, steelhead fishing has been good for boat and shore anglers at the Berrien Springs Dam. Predator hunting is heating up.
