We managed nice limits of 16- to 19-inch walleyes, and it really didn’t matter where we went; just cover water and stay on the move.

Most of these late-departing, summer river walleyes are caught incidentally by anglers targeting other species, but those fishing specifically for walleye can catch them with by casting shallow-running crankbaits, bodybaits or jig-and-plastic combinations.

With very good year-classes of walleyes in 2018 and 2019, the next several years should be banner ones for walleye fishing in the Western Basin of Lake Erie.
