The 5-year-old cow died while giving birth. The fenced farm has 15 elk, according to the owner’s most recent registration. The farm has been licensed since 1997 and is not enrolled in the CWD Herd Status
The National Veterinary Laboratory confirmed that a 15-year-old whitetail doe and a 2-year-old elk cow tested positive.
The Mineral Point farm has been quarantined but reportedly is still open because properly handled dead animals leaving the premises do not pose a risk of spreading the disease.
But there’s concern that it could take years to implement the revisions, particularly changes that might require legislative action or regulatory changes.
