Updated story as Red Lake band seeks change for Upper Red Lake in northern Minnesota

At the State of the Band address on March 10, Red Lake Nation Tribal Chairman Darrell Seki Sr. shared that the band will look to contact the U.S. secretary of the Interior Department to discuss restoring the reservation boundaries to fully include Upper Red Lake.
A regional state DNR official said the topic had not arisen in recent consultations with Red Lake Nation.

Minnesota DNR, Red Lake Nation renew Upper and Lower Red Lake fishery management agreement

The new MOU closely parallels previous 1999-2019 agreements that facilitated restoration of high-quality walleye fishing to Minnesota’s largest inland body of water. The agreement states that each entity will support the Red Lake Fisheries Technical Committee, a joint panel of experts that recommends policies and practices to maintain a healthy fishery.
