Ice conditions are still quite variable across the state, but where anglers are able to get out and fish, they seem to be finding some success.

We are in limbo between open water and ice fishing on most lakes. Fishable ice is in certain areas, but with warm weather spell, many areas are iffy.

As we head toward the middle of January, ice fishing is becoming more widespread; however, caution still needs to be used. Anglers are mostly targeting crappie, bluegills, bass, pike and walleye.

It has been below freezing across much of the state this month, which is good news for ice anglers.
