Seasons for walleye, northern pike and muskellunge for all U.P. waters including the Great Lakes, inland waters, and St. Marys River open Monday.
Walleyes get all the attention on ‘The Opener’ — and in general in the state — but those who do chase northern pike could be rewarded nicely for their efforts.
The tribe is also offering rewards to anglers who turn in pike caught in the southern third of the lake. Coeur d’Alene Tribe spokeswoman Heather Keen says anglers can get $5 per fish, and some fish marked with special tags carry rewards of between $50 and $500.
Most of the state’s best pike waters are located in north central and northwestern Nebraska; however, eastern Nebraska anglers have an excellent location at Lake Wanahoo in Saunders County to catch and release pike into the 40-inch range.
