Black bears have been sighted in all 21 counties, but their population is densest in the northwestern part of the state, including Sussex, Warren, Passaic and Morris counties.
The surveys documented 172 nesting or territorial pairs of bald eagles in New Jersey, up from 161 the previous year, and 42 new osprey nests were counted for a record total of 515.
