Among the initiatives accomplishments, 16 pheasant cooperatives actively are working, with 14 more cooperatives currently in development.
That core population area is estimated at 378 animals, up from 285 in 2015, but moose hunt in Michigan is not currently being considered.
Votes on deer regulations and rules for catching salmon, trout, whitefish and smelt will follow a public comment period.
The regulation changes will result in expanded angling opportunities, including keeping the lake trout season open year-round in some locations.
Weeklong celebration, June 10-16, includes a handful of events taking place in harbors across the state and live radio broadcasts that will feature DNR staff and other industry professionals.
They’ll be setting survey nets throughout the river during the month of August, hoping to capture a variety of the river’s species to record data on abundance, growth, mortality and size of fish populations.
