The Minnesota Court of Appeals on Tuesday dismissed a petition challenging the state’s hunting and trapping season for wolves.

Gov. Mark Dayton last Thursday answered the call of sportsmen and others who asked him to line-item veto parts of the Legacy bill they say betrayed the public trust.

As it pertained to the outdoors world, the recently concluded legislative session was a relatively quiet one.


Following a contentious week and letters to his office from high-profile state sportsmen, the governor wields his veto pen.

For as polarizing as antler-point restrictions in the southeastern part of the state have been, the bill that allows the DNR to keep them in place this fall and beyond was decidedly less controversial


As ice-out progresses north, those with a vested interest in fishing might see this weekend something they didn’t in many places during last weekend’s fishing opener: fishermen in boats, on open water.
