Warm-up has been great to do some hole-hopping. Still, ice slowly building. So where, exactly, are things at ice- and fishing-wise on the lake?
So what’s the story on the ice on fisheries across the state? Not so good in the southern part of the state, although there are still some solid open-water options, but good ice reports from
Crappie and bluegill activity seems to have really improved with the majority of ‘gills still weed-related in less than 15 feet.

The bite here has been good – using spoons and fishing slow as the fish are a bit finicky.
An ice situation you hard-water types need to know about. Ice is looking a bit better on the smaller lakes, however. But use caution regardless of where you go on the ice.
Places like the Adirondacks, Catskills and anywhere else where lakes are at higher elevations should be seeing some action if cooler weather arrives, with light winds.
