May is a month of opportunity for state hunters and anglers. Here’s a look at the New York fishing and hunting report on April 25, 2024.
Smallmouth bass fishing was reported to have dramatically picked up on this fishery.

Back bays hold pike as they go through the various stages of the spawn. Deadbait under a bobber, spinners, spoons and shallow diving crankbaits are all viable options.
The Missouri River in and around Chamberlain continued to be be the most consistent bite and the shore bite should only get better with the spawn beginning.
The best success here was found making long casts to areas of off-color water. Hair jigs and lipless crankbaits were the most productive.
Solid bite with solid patterns emerging as well – crappie anglers are out having fun and this next week looks good to really kick things into gear.
