Pier fishing here was reported to have improved this past week with decent fishing for coho salmon and steelhead.

The weather over the weekend definitely limited the number of people going out, but there were plenty of people heading to the Missouri River on Monday. So how’s the fishing?

Many lakes are now ice-free in the southern part of the state. Here’s a look at the Minnesota fishing report on March 19, 2025.

Anglers should find fish in the pools or at the dam and also staged around or on gravel spots here.

The river walleye spawning runs on the Maumee and Sandusky rivers are beginning to start in earnest and inland waters are heating up for spring crappies.

Walleyes and whitefish were being seen on underwater cameras in good numbers out from the mouth of this river and along the pier by late-ice anglers.

Fishing reports have been good. Numbers of walleyes, saugers and perch. Using electronics is super helpful with some larger walleyes swimming through suspended.

A final recap from the ice season and how things went this past week.

The ice is falling apart across most of the state. But those who are able to find safe ice and get out are catching some nice perch in this hot spot.
