With the late ice-out, there will be plenty of walleyes, and some big walleyes, in the river for the opener. A jig and minnow will be the ticket for most.
Water temps in the upper 50s tell us the walleye spawn is pretty much over, just as the weather has become more stable. Another issue to deal with has been the bug hatch.
According to one charter captain here, the “deep bite was lake trout for good action all day.”
Once again, this past week presented some challenges, but things bounced back and we are entering an amazing (and stable) stretch of conditions for a change.
Lake Ontario Harbors and low ends of tributaries are good spots for a variety warmwater species.

A nice push of fresh fish were reported to have made their way up the river here recently. Anglers reported that lots of steelhead were caught.
Look for bass and panfish near dark bottoms and cover on warm sunny afternoons here.
