Pennsylvania’s Pine Creek Rail Trail link to Wellsboro is completed

The state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources marked the completion of the Pine Creek Rail Trail Northern Extension in the Pennsylvania Wilds Oct. 17, connecting the Borough of Wellsboro to the 62-mile Pine Creek Rail Trail and closing the fifth Top 10 Trail Gap.
This new three-mile connection strengthens access to Pennsylvania’s trail network while supporting local businesses, tourism, and community recreation, according to DCNR Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn.

New president and CEO at Backcountry Hunters and Anglers: Ryan ‘Cal’ Callaghan

Backcountry Hunters and Anglers announced on Friday, Oct. 31 that its board of directors has selected Ryan Callaghan as the group’s new president and CEO.
Effective Jan. 1, 2026, Callaghan replaces Patrick Berry, who left the job in July after an 18-month tenure. Land Tawney previously had held the post for more than a decade. Well known for his work as director of conservation with Steve Rinella’s Bozeman, Mont.-based outdoors media company Meateater, Callaghan has been an outspoken public lands and hunting rights advocate for years.

Not just about hunting: New York youth enjoy fishing events too

While youth hunting events get the spotlight in the fall in New York, there are a number of youth-oriented fishing events as well. Here’s a sample.
In Ulster County, the Federated Sportsmen’s Clubs of Ulster County started a program in 2021 that has morphed into the Youth and Veteran Fishing Charter. The program involves taking both kids and veterans on fishing charters.
