Bass fishing has never been better at Alum Creek in Ohio’s Delaware County

Alum Creek Reservoir is one of the bigger – and better – public spots for fishing and boating in central Ohio.
And that’s no big secret since this 3,192-acre lake in Delaware County gets plenty of pressure, angling-wise and otherwise. The northern portion of this long, serpentine lake – north of the Cheshire Road bridge – is where anglers will want to focus their efforts.

Ohio Insider: Husband and wife continue tradition of opening their Hocking County property to kids’ fishing tournament

The things that Fred Lilly does for people in the outdoors comes from pure love of his fellow human being.
Lilly, 78, of Logan, Ohio, invites all manner of people young and old to his farm in Hocking County so they can experience hunting or fishing, sometimes for the first time. For example, more than 50 people over the years have harvested their first deer on Fred and his wife Jo Ellen’s property.

Meet Ed Crosby: Ohio Outdoor News’ 2024 Person of the Year

Ed Crosby spends most of his time behind the scenes making sure all of Ohio’s hunter education instructors have what he or she needs to do their job.
He doesn’t seek out the limelight, but instead toils in relative obscurity. Now, however, Ohio Outdoor News is recognizing a job well done on behalf of Crosby by naming him this year’s Person of the Year.
“I’ve never done it for the recognition, but for the betterment of the whole area,” he said of receiving the award.

Lima Lake in Ohio’s Allen County is small, but packs a punch for anglers

The smallest of the four reservoirs located within the city of Lima in northwest Ohio might just well be the best fishing prospect among the quartet.
Lima Lake covers just 88 acres in size, but this upground is quite productive when it comes producing fish despite its stature, said Bryan Kinter, a fisheries biologist for the ODNR Division of Wildlife in Findlay.

Ohio Insider: The rebirth of the Cuyahoga River is a remarkable story

A lot has been happening in the Ohio outdoor world over the past two weeks. If you would, please indulge me in sharing a few items of importance.
The story of the rebirth of sorts of the Cuyahoga is remarkable. From the time the Division of Wildlife decided last year that steelhead would be stocked into the river, the angling public has been looking forward to it with great intrigue. If the Cuyahoga turns out to be as hospitable to these fish as the other rivers in the steelhead program, it will be a great success story for the fishery.

Ohio in middle of two-year study on turkey nesting

Ohio is nearly smack in the middle of a two-year research project with several other states to study nesting habits of turkeys.
In addition to turkey brood surveys that are conducted annually, the ODNR Division of Wildlife is studying the nesting and survival of hen turkeys in eastern Ohio in collaboration with researchers in Maryland, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
