On Lake Michigan, perch anglers are having good success in the usual overwintering areas in 50-60 feet of water.

We’re in the transition time between open water and ice fishing.

In the past week, 229 steelhead swam through the South Bend Fish Ladder. Since September, almost 1300 steelhead and 2000 coho have gone through South Bend. So how’s the bite?

Lake trout are starting to move near shore on Lake Michigan. Use jigging spoons, blade baits, and white flukes/tubes on jigheads near the bottom.

A few lake trout are showing up, and a few whitefish.
