Parts of the Boundary Waters could reopen to overnight use by July 30

Portions of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness could reopen to overnight visitors July 30, a little more than two weeks after a surge of wildfires prompted the U.S. Forest Service to close the wilderness.
Superior National Forest officials announced today (Friday, July 24) that they are considering reopening 37 of the BWCAW’s 103 quota entry points. The proposed second phase of reopening would restore public access to approximately 424,231 acres, or 39% of the wilderness.
