A one-acre pond might not be a big deal to most people, but that’s not the case in Wisconsin’s Shawano County village of Eland that depends on the pond – and its trout – for playing a major role in hosting an annual kids’ fishing day.
Eland, a village of about 200 residents between Birnamwood and Wittenberg just off of Hwy. 45, is doing what it can to preserve the Eland Mill Pond, an impoundment of Railroad Creek. The dam is in need of repair. The village just started a fundraising effort to come up with $100,000 for the project.
