Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) conservation warden Shawna McDowell was assigned to the Vernon County station in 2005 after spending three years in Rock County.
She worked for the Iowa DNR for six years before being hired by the Wisconsin DNR. McDowell will officially retire at the end of 2025. Wild ginseng, Wisconsin’s state herb, grows in Vernon County and most southern and southwestern Wisconsin counties.
