Madison, Wis. Preliminary figures show Wisconsin hunters harvested 39,366 turkeys during the spring 2002 wild turkey season, a slight increase over last spring’s total kill.

A total of 159,542 permits were issued throughout the 43 turkey management units during the spring season. More than 19,000 “second permits” were issued. Permit numbers are evenly distributed throughout the six time periods to provide a quality hunting experience. The fall 2002 wild turkey hunting season runs Oct. 12 through Nov. 10.
