What looks like a quiet and calm stretch of the Black River actually teems with life below the surface, including one of Wisconsin’s most remarkable groups of wildlife – mollusks. Mississippi Valley Conservancy is hosting a free outing, “Science in the Stream: Black River Mussel Survey,” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 12.
Guided by Dan Jackson, participants will wade into the Black River in search of native freshwater mussels.
